Orange Tasting In January

As January 2012 already comes to an end our Kindergarteners and 1st Graders taste California Navel Oranges after hearing the story “An Orange In January” by Dianna Hutts Aston. It was a book recommended by our school’s wonderful librarian who has helped to pick out our garden related books this year. During tasting, we used our 5 senses to explore our orange slices. Many of the students said that the sound of an orange when being eaten is “like a kiss.” Others said it “looks like a half moon,” “it smells sweet,” “it looks like a watermelon,” and “it feels rough.”
