Garden Party Celebration Recap

Our annual end of the year garden party this past Saturday turned out to be a beautiful and warm day out in San Francisco. By the time I arrived to set up, our parent volunteers, Ken, Brian, Michael, and Phil, had already started up the the grill, plugged in the music, and laid out the area for food in the lower garden classroom. Up in the garden itself, Jade and our other parent volunteers set up the activities for the day. Aside from eating the delicious food that was brought in from the families and cooked on the grill, families and their students had time to participate in various activities, such as honey/rosemary butter making, bok choy seed saving, face painting, and flag making on used shirts to be hung in the garden next year. Our AFY teachers and staff along with alumni and new kinder families were present as well.

At the end of the day, we were also able to raise $93 in donations for garden supplies. Thank you to those that donated. A big thanks must also go to our garden committee co-chairs, Julia and Jade, for coordinating the day’s festivities and for all the hard work they have put into this year. Lastly, another shout out to Phil, Ken, Brian, Michael, and Mr. Philip for coordinating the food, set-up, and clean-up at the end of the day. AFY parent’s and staff sure know how to party!

A great posting as usual, except that you modestly left out how indebted the community is for all that YOU did to make the party happen! When I was there, you were doing face/arm painting for the children! (Don’t you have enought to do?)

$93 is something, but I hope that we can encourage the community to provide more substantial support to the program that is one our greatest assets at the school.

  2. Can you explain a bit about how you used old t-shirts for flag making?
