For Valentine’s Day our classes learned about herbs in the garden and their uses. We listed some of the herbs that were available to cut on the board under the categories of: flavoring, food, medicine, and perfume (scent). Paper signs were made for the same herbs that were listed on the board for students to identify on their own during the activity. In partners, they went out and cut 5 different herbs on their own ( 4 inches long or about one hand’s length). Afterwards, they came to the big table where our teachers, Mr. T (parent volunteer), and I helped to tie them together. At the end I suggested that they can hang them upside down to dry to use later on. The herbs that were available for our kids to choose from were: lavender (pre-cut from the lower garden), lemon balm, oregano, thyme, lemon thyme, yarrow, pineapple sage, lemon balm, lemon verbena, and rosemary. Lastly, on another note, our school also had a lion dancing performance at the end of the school day to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Gung Hay Fat Choy everyone!
