Education Outside Corps Program

Welcome back to a new school year in our outdoor classroom and garden. As with new starts, our garden program has also taken on a new role. Beginning the 2013-2014 school year, Alice Fong Yu’s School Garden Program will be a part of the Education Outside Corps Program whose mission is to “transform public education by bringing learning to life in outdoor classrooms.” There are currently 22 SFUSD public schools in the program this year with a corps member at each site, and that number is expected to expand each year. Corps members serve a two year term at their site working full-time Monday-Thursdays while Fridays are set aside for professional development, which includes mentorship time with the other members in the program, field trips, and working with the SFUSD Sustainability Director to implement sustainability projects at their school site. Ms. Fung will be returning for her 3rd year in AFY’s garden program and her 1st year as a Education Outside Corps Member. To learn more about Education Outside and its corps program visit their website at www.educationoutside.org.
