Thank you to all the students, families, and organizers that participated this past Wednesday, 10/9 for International Walk N’ Roll to School Day! We had 132 AFY students walk or roll to school and that’s not even counting all the family members that joined them as well. We had students who walked, biked, took public transit, scootered, and skateboarded to school. Participants arrived in the morning at the garden gate to receive their sticker and a prize for doing their part to stay active, reduce traffic, and spend time with their families. We had a walking school bus led by Jade Moy (2nd and 6th grade parent), which departed from the beautiful Moraga and 16th Avenue steps. We also had a bike train organized by Kesinee Yip (2nd and 6th grade parent), which left from Kirkham and 25th Avenue. We don’t have to wait until next year’s Walk N’ Roll to school day to do this again. If you are interested in leading or coordinating walking school buses or bike trains in your neighborhood, please contact Ms. Fung at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Shout Outs! A big thank you to Arizmendi Bakery on 9th Avenue for their donation of baked goods. A thank you to the Safe Routes to School program for the campaign materials and prizes. Also, thank you to Ms. Wong (1st Grade Teacher) for baking delicious scones for our participants, and to Ms. Zhao (3rd Grade Teacher), Jennifer Louie, Kesinee Yip, and Jade Moy for helping to co-coordinate this event.
