Working with Words in the Garden

Opposite Partners These past few weeks our 1st graders continue to explore the Fall garden with 4 of their 5 senses while working with words and spelling. Two activities that they’ve done are favorite lessons of mine, “Alphabet Hike” a lesson designed by Marie Sayles, which is great for reviewing the alphabet, working on sounding out words, and exploring what’s currently growing in the garden. Another lesson, “6 of One, Half Dozen of the Other” by Life Lab is a fun one for talking about opposites, classifying garden items, and using one’s observation skills to guess what their classmates sorted.
