School Garden Compost Pile

The weather has gotten colder this week, however, our compost pile is heating up to almost 100 degrees! The 4th and 5th grade student council compost team started their compost program early this year. During lunch, students collect fruits and vegetables and bring them up to our 3-bin composting system. During our garden classes this past month, our 1st-4th graders have also been helping to cut up old plants to help fuel our compost pile with the “greens” and “browns” it needs. We are very happy with our new garden tool – the compost thermometer! Remember to have your students bring their warm coats and gear as we approach Winter in the garden.
