We happened to celebrate Earth Day today with our Bike and Roll to School Week celebration. This whole week, we are encouraging families and students to take alternative modes of transportation to school though biking or rolling as well as encouraging walking and using public transit. Biking or rolling to school is a great way to exercise in the morning, reduce air pollution and traffic, and spend time with family. I saw a lot of smiles this morning as many wheels were flying down the slopes of Lawton Street and 12th Avenue. We had a total of 95 recorded students and family members arrive today by bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller skates, buses, and legs (41 rollers and 54 walkers/bus riders)! Thank you to all the participants who came today and to all the families that do this everyday of the school year. If you missed out so far, it’s not too late to join in on the fun. We welcome you to bike and roll to school all week. Simply contact Ms. Fung if you did take an alternative mode of transportation to school and she will award you with a special prize if you didn’t get one already today. Parents are also eligible to win a XtraCycle Edge Runner Bicycle through registering here by May 2nd. Last but not least, a big thank you as well to Nancy Buffum of the San Francisco Bike Coalition for helping us and many other schools in the district to coordinate this celebration and the prize bags. Please enjoy some of the photos from today’s event.
